Honduran doctors of obstetrics and gynecology regularly see women with advanced, incurable cervical cancer--too late for screening, surgical and radiotherapy treatment to save their lives. With the technology of colposcopy and biopsy procedure, our cervical cancer clinic has detected an epidemic of cervical cancer among young women who would have died without access to early detection and treatment. With the increase we have implemented a treatment by freezing the cervix and also by cutting the cancerous lesion from the cervix. If it is an advanced case with the community obstetric/gynecology physicians negotiate with the operating room of the Santa Rosa de Copán Hospital and medical colleagues who are willing to donate their time and/or work extra shifts, women's lives are being saved for less than $100 each.
