CAMO and Vitamin Angels: A Partnership for Nutritional Health in Honduras

Over the past six years, the collaboration between CAMO and Vitamin Angels has represented a joint effort to improve the health of the most vulnerable communities in Honduras.

Vitamin Angels, a global nonprofit organization, focuses on providing nutritional solutions to pregnant women and children under the age of 5 in need.

Since 2018, CAMO has worked with partners to distribute vitamins and deworming treatments to thousands of people.

Impact on Beneficiaries’ Lives

“I feel healthy. I take my vitamins daily, and the doctor says my baby is doing well,” said Miriam Menjívar, one of the beneficiaries. She is expecting her second child and, despite having suffered miscarriage threats early in her pregnancy, is now in good health.

This year, Vitamin Angels provided CAMO with a donation of nutritional supplements sufficient to benefit over 116,000 people in Honduras. The donation included doses of 400 mg chewable albendazole tablets for children aged 12 to 59 months; prenatal multivitamins for pregnant women; and vitamin A doses of 100,000 and 200,000 IU for children aged 6 to 11 months and 12 to 59 months, respectively.

The distribution of these vitamins and deworming treatments was carried out through CAMO’s women-focused programs and brigades, as well as in high-need municipalities with the collaboration of local governments across three departments in western Honduras and other public health entities.

Healthier Women and Children

Radamés Fuentes, a doctor and director of the Mónico Romero Health Center in Corquín, Copán—located 42 kilometers from CAMO’s headquarters—explained that today, pregnant women are glowing. “Since we implemented the deworming program for children under 5, we have observed a decrease in hospital admissions due to parasitism and a reduction in diarrhea cases.”

Discussing the benefits of vitamin A, Fuentes emphasized, “This contributes in the long term, allowing us to have healthier babies, prevent diseases, and promote development without complications.”

A Lasting Partnership

The alliance between CAMO and Vitamin Angels continues to be a pillar in improving health in Honduras.

CAMO’s sustainability model, partnering with local governments and responsible businesses, ensures that these vitamin supplements and deworming treatments reach women and children in the most remote and high-need areas.

The continuation of this joint effort promises to keep helping the most vulnerable communities, providing access to life-transforming nutritional solutions that enhance the overall well-being of mothers and children throughout the country.

Teresa Pacheco, the social projects manager at Cafés Finos de Corquín (Cafico), a socially responsible company collaborating with CAMO, stated, “It’s a challenge to bring these projects to remote villages, and with the support of Corquín’s medical staff, we’ve been able to deliver vitamins and deworming treatments free of charge to many women and children.”
